lisa Hi!  Thank you for visiting my blog!  I am Lisa Westman, and I am passionate about the field of education. I have thirteen years of experience teaching gifted humanities, English Language Arts, and Social Studies. Currently, I am enjoying being a 6-8 instructional coach that specializes in differentiation for Skokie School District 73.5.  I lead professional development for K-8 teachers, serve on the District Leadership Team, District Highly Qualified Staff Committee, District Instructional Coaching Team, Middle School Data Team and I am the 6-8 advanced learner case manager.

In 2016 I was listed as one of the Top 100 Educators from IL to follow on Twitter and am honored to be a frequent guest contributor for Peter Dewitt’s blog, Finding Common Ground in EdWeek. I have presented at the Illinois Computing Educators Conference, Illinois Educator Technology Conference, the Illinois Council of Instructional Coaches, LaGrange 102 Institute Day, Niles Township Institute Day and other events. I look forward  to presenting the Illinois Association of Gifted Children Annual Convention and the ASCD Annual Conference in the upcoming months.

I have been fortunate to receive media attention for some of the innovative units I have created; most notably was the SharkTank simulation I facilitated.  This educational experience provided student participants the opportunity to Skype with Mark Cuban.

When I am not thinking about education, I enjoy spending time with my husband (also an educator), our two children, attending Bar Method classes and going for long walks with my girlfriends.

I would love to hear from you. Follow me on Twitter, follow this blog, or email me: lisadwestman@gmail.com

Feel free to adapt any of these examples of differentiated units of study for your students.  Let me know if you have questions.
